Apple Developing Lower-Cost Vision Pro, M3 MacBook Launch Nears

Mark Gurman’s latest newsletter provides new details on Apple’s rumored more affordable version of its upcoming AR/VR headset, tentatively named Vision Pro. To reduce costs, Apple may remove the advanced EyeSight features which require additional external displays, cameras and sensors.

While the original Vision Pro is expected to cost $3,000–4,000, the cheaper version is slated for $1,500–2,500. Dropping complex EyeSight hardware would help reach that lower price point. However, the release date for this affordable Vision Pro likely won’t be until 2025.

Gurman also mentions upcoming M3-powered MacBooks, including redesigned MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs and iPads. The new M3 Pro and M3 Max chips are ready for MacBook Pros arriving in spring 2024.

The next-gen iPad Pro with an OLED display, revamped design, updated Magic Keyboard and faster M3 chip is also in development. Meanwhile, the M3-equipped MacBook Airs aren’t expected until summer 2025.

So while Apple’s AR headset plans evolve and new Macs with the M3 chip loom, fans will have to wait a bit longer for these major product updates. Key details remain fluid, but Gurman provides a helpful roadmap of Apple’s future hardware pipeline.
